13 people died in a car accident from the beginning of the year

Cyprus fatal road accident statistics are worried given that a total of 13 people died between the beginning of the new year and Tuesday.

And Philenews reports that this shows a surprising increase of 62.5% compared to the eight recorded at the same time in 2021.

Last year, a total of 45 lives were lost on the road, and in 2020, another 48 were lost, despite prolonged general blockades. In fact, there are only four fewer casualties than the one recorded in 2019.

The data show alcohol and careless driving as the main causes of the high incidence of fatal accidents in Cyprus.

Careless driving is behind 20% of fatal accidents and then driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances.

However, the traffic police’s safe driving campaign has reduced the number of dead motorcyclists this year, in contrast to before.
