2,300 flights canceled due to Omicron’s vacation trip

Thousands more flights were delayed as more than 2,300 flights worldwide were canceled on Friday and highly infectious variants of Omicron interfered with vacation trips.

But thankfully one route was unaffected. Santa was on track to deliver gifts to children around the world. Air defense officials have assured US President Joe Biden.

As of 2015 GMT, a total of 2,325 flights were canceled on Friday, including 616 flights to and from US airports, and more than 8,000 were delayed, according to the tracking website Flightaware.com.

According to the site, more than 1,400 cancellations were announced on Christmas Saturday.

Pilots, flight attendants and other staff have had to call or quarantine due to illness after being exposed to Covid, Lufthansa, Delta, United Airlines and many other airlines this year. I was forced to cancel my flight during one of my peak travel periods.

According to Flightaware, United canceled more than 185 flights on Friday. This is equivalent to 10% of scheduled flights.

“This week’s nationwide surge in Omicron incidents has had a direct impact on our flight crew and the people who operate our operations,” United Airlines said in a statement.

“As a result, unfortunately some flights have to be canceled and the affected customers are notified before they arrive at the airport,” the airline said, saying it is working to rebook passengers. Added.

Similarly, Delta canceled at least 166 flights and said it “has exhausted all options and resources, including rerouting and replacement of aircraft and crew to cover scheduled flights.”

“We apologize to our customers for the delay in planning their vacation trip,” the company said.

Eleven Alaska Airlines flights were canceled after employees said they may have been exposed to Covid-19 and needed to be quarantined in quarantine.

Cancellation was added to the pandemic frustration for many Americans eager to reunite with their families during the holidays after Christmas last year was significantly shortened.

-Huge Travel Bump-

AAA estimates that more than 109 million Americans will travel by plane, train, or car between December 23 and January 2, an increase of 34 percent from last year. ..

However, most of these plans were created before the outbreak of the Omicron variant, which became the dominant strain in the United States and overwhelmed some hospitals and healthcare professionals.

Fortunately, Omicron did not affect Santa’s travel plans, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which has been tracking Centnick’s Christmas journey for over 60 years.

Major Eric Kenny, commander of Canada’s NORAD region, told AFP that Santa had distributed more than 2 billion gifts, surpassing Pakistan around 1800 GMT.

“Santa is doing very well so far,” Kenny said. “He’s been there for hours already and goes through the night.”

Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also spoke with NORAD officials at a video conference on Friday to confirm that Santa’s trip was proceeding smoothly.

Biden then talked to several American families via a video hangout, asking the kids what gifts they wanted, and saying they had to be in bed before midnight. Otherwise, Santa wouldn’t come.

But the event then made a sour turn when Biden stood up to him insulting his father, who just wanted a happy holiday, with signs of deep political division that plagued American society.

According to journalists who attended the event, his father said, “Let’s go to Brandon!” Following “Merry Christmas.” This phrase has been used by supporters of Donald Trump as a euphemism for derogatory remarks to the current president.
