Hyderabad: Pedestrians crossing crowded roads at city intersections can sigh of relief. A 7-foot bridge (FoB) opens this month, with other bridges under construction at other crowded intersections in Hyderabad.
Public FoBs are located in the Charminar, Serilingampally, Khairatabad, and Kukatpally zones of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). All FoBs have lifts, but some FoBs also have escalators and are installed in critical locations.
Meanwhile, according to a GHMC spokesman, construction of 10 more sites is progressing rapidly and is targeted for completion in February 2022. “The original intention was to open 17 FoBs by the end of the year, but there was a delay for a variety of reasons,” he explained.
Due to the heavy traffic in these sections, it was very difficult for pedestrians to cross the road during peak and non-peak hours.
In addition to FoB, local governments are also creating transportation islands and refurbishing other intersections. GHMC plans to build 90 intersections, 70 of which have already been built and others in various completions.
These pedestrian facilities not only reduce car congestion, but also provide a transportation system for people crossing the road. The Nana Kalam Guda Rotary intersection, Sinikupuri Y Junction, Silicon T Junction, and Youth Fuguda are just a few of the places where construction is about to begin.
