A Sikh man, wife, brother and infant were found dead. The family originated in Hoshialpur, Punjab

Four members of a U.S.-based Sikh family kidnapped earlier this week were found dead, a California sheriff said. Delhi, 27-year-old mother Jasleen Kaur, 36-year-old father Jasdeep Singh, and 39-year-old uncle Amandeep Singh.

“It’s horrifying, horrifyingly pointless,” said Merced County Sheriff Verne Warnke. “We found four kidnapped people, but they are actually dead.”

According to reports, their bodies were found in an orchard.

On Wednesday, a 48-year-old man with an interest in the kidnapping of his family tried to commit suicide when authorities focused on him.

A car that belonged to one of the family members was found on fire late Monday, and law enforcement determined the four had been kidnapped.

Police said the family’s bank card was used at an ATM booth in Merced County.

The suspect, identified as Jesús Manuel Salgado, attempted suicide and is currently in custody.

Local authorities had asked locals for help in tracking down the family.

The family was kidnapped on the 800 block of Highway 59 south of Merced.

Authorities were unable to find a motive behind the crime.

Jasdeep and Amandeep’s parents, Dr. Randhir Singh and Dr. Kirpal Kaur, are retired from the health and education sector.

Radhir returned to India on 29 September and was on a pilgrimage to Uttarakhand when he heard news of the kidnapping.
