A stunning 2nd-century oversized Hercules statue has been unearthed in Greece. See photo.

In a startling discovery from the ancient kingdom of Greece, during excavations a super-sized statue depicting a barren Hercules with a “juvenile body” was unearthed. The discovery was made on Friday, September 16, 2022 by a team at the Aristotelian University of Philippi.



The excavation site is a richly decorated building, which the research team believes is likely a fountain. The structure has a special architectural decoration. The fragment has been found. The decoration consisted of impressive statues from the Roman period (second century AD), the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports said in a release.

The building where the statue was found and is believed to have been adorned, according to excavations, dates to the 8th or 9th century AD.

Archaeological data show that classical and Roman statues of Constantinople adorned buildings and public spaces until the late Byzantine period, the ministry said.
