Activists blame Iran for Rushdie attack

The Iranian ruler is responsible for the attack on British author Salman Rushdie. Activists and opponents were indicted today because the Islamic Republic never rejected a 1989 order issued by its founders calling for the murder of a novelist.

The fatwas issued by Ayatollah Khomeini to Rushdie’s novel The Satanic Verses have not been part of Iran’s daily discourse for some time, but his successor Ayatollah Ali Clerical leadership under Khamenei also did nothing to show that it was no longer valid. I emphasized that the order is still valid.
