Activists Call for Climate Emergency Declaration – Middle East Monitor

Dozens of Tunisian youth climate movement activists organized a sit-in outside the capital’s municipal theater yesterday demanding a “climate emergency” be declared in the country.

“We are the young men and women assembled in front of the Municipal Theatre, demanding a healthy environment and the right to water and life,” said Ahmed Al-Hajj Al-Tayeb, the movement’s executive director. said.

Al-Hajj Al-Tayeb said: [Kais Saied] and Prime Minister [Najla Bouden] Declaring a climate emergency means recognizing that climate change threatens citizens and Tunisian life at all levels. ”

He said the government needs to “adopt new eco-friendly economic approaches such as renewable energy, organic farming and sustainable water”.

“Today we demand climate justice and environmental education to educate and teach our children.”

The Tunisian Youth Climate Movement was founded in Tunisia in 2019 by young activists to support environmental sustainability. According to the missing statement, it aims to “maintain a healthy and sustainable future for today and future generations.”
