Abide with Me was part of a ceremony held on January 29th each year as part of the culmination of Republic Day celebrations.

“Aey Mere Watan ke Logon” was chosen after two years of military standoffs when hostilities with the Chinese were still ongoing.

The song became famous after being sung by famous playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and written by the legendary lyricist Kavipradeep for soldiers who died in the 1962 war.

The Ministry of Defense, after many other songs and compositions, chose the songs to include in the ceremony.
