‘Aggressive’ French reaction to Ocean Vikings ‘unjustifiable’, Meloni says

(ANSA) – ROME, November 11 – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Friday continued to condemn France’s “aggressive” response to the NGO-run search and rescue ship Ocean Viking.
“When there is talk of retaliation in the dynamics of the EU, something is not right,” Meloni said at a press conference.
“I was shocked by the aggressive, incomprehensible and unjustifiable reaction of the French government.”
On Friday, Paris allowed Ocean Viking, operated by the French NGO SOS Méditerranée, to dock in Toulon with 230 asylum seekers on board. This was because Rome ignored the ships’ appeals to allocate a safe harbor for weeks.
But France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has announced that Paris has suspended plans to take in 3,500 refugees currently in Italy, and will take similar action for “all participants” in the EU’s migrant migration mechanism. I asked.
Dalmannin called on “especially Germany” to suspend the movement of asylum seekers from Italy. (ANSA).
