Norwegian engineering firm Aker Solutions announced Tuesday that it has won a contract from Shell to build an offshore platform for the UK’s Jackdaw gas field.
Offshore fields, some 250 kilometers east of Aberdeen, are expected to account for more than 6% of UK North Sea gas production at peak production by the middle of the decade, Shell said.
To keep costs down, the field is generated using a permanently unmanned wellhead platform tied to a nearby Shearwater platform.
Aker Solutions said it has booked orders worth NOK 2 billion to 3 billion ($206 million to $309 million) in the third quarter contract.
Aker Solutions said in a statement, “We are delighted that Shell has chosen us to develop a cost-effective platform for this major North Sea gas field.
