Al-Layan, who is struggling, broke up with French coach Laurent Blanc and replaced former Chilean national team Nicolas Cordoba, the club said in a tweet on Sunday.
Under Blanc, who launched the Qatar Stint in December 2020, Al-Rayyan struggled this season and is currently 9th in the 12-team QNB Stars League.
The French led Al Layan to the Amir Cup final and lost to Al Sadd in a penalty last October, but the Lions were ranked by Colombia’s James Rodriguez, France’s Stephen Enzonji and Algeria’s Yacine Brahimi. Despite this, he is struggling this season as well.
The former champion lost seven games in a total of 17 games played on QSL, with only four wins in addition to seven draws.
Cordova, who is currently coaching the Qatar U-23 team, will reportly coach Al Rayan until the end of the season due to a commitment with the state.
He won the Chilean equalizer when he drew one-on-one with the French side in Montpellier under the direction of Blanc in 2011.
