Albanese became Prime Minister of Australia prior to Quad Talk

Moscow (Sputnik)-Australia’s new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has sworn on Monday prior to the Quad Summit in Japan on Tuesday, media reports reported.

“I hope to lead a government with the same optimistic sentiment and define the Australian people,” Albanese told reporters in Sydney.

According to ABC, Albanese has pledged with other ministers, including Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who is also traveling to Japan on Monday.

In his victory speech on Saturday, the new Prime Minister said he would attend the Quad Summit in Tokyo on Tuesday, adding that the Quad Summit is “an absolute priority for Australia.” Albanese is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting during his stay in Japan with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, US President Joe Biden, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Japan-US-Australia-India Strategic Dialogue (QUAD) Summit is an informal strategic dialogue between the United States, Japan, Australia and India. This format was launched in 2007 by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan as an informal consultation mechanism for four countries that share open Indo-Pacific values. Demand for this format is increasing with the exacerbation of the contradiction between the United States and China. Albanese became Prime Minister of Australia prior to Quad Talk
