An Italian Teenager Attempts Suicide Every Day

(ANSA) – ROME, 13 October – Italian teenagers attempt suicide every day, the National Federation of Pediatricians (FIMP) said Thursday.

“Every day in our country adolescent girls and boys attempt suicide,” said FIMP President Antonio Davino at the FIMP National Congress in Riva del Garda.

“Cases have increased by 75% in the last two years.

“And 100,000 young people choose the path of social death, the so-called hikikomori, sequestered in their rooms, shunned from social interaction and overwhelmed by fear of being judged.

“These are shocking numbers because of the post-COVID fallout.”
