Artist Carne Griffiths releases 70 prints of “The Platinum Queen”

London- At a studio in London, British artist Carne Griffiths adds a touch of final fluorescent pink to the portrait “The Platinum Queen,” depicting a young Queen Elizabeth just before the coronation.

Known for using tea, ink and alcohol in his work, Griffith has released 70 limited edition prints and artist proofs to commemorate the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee.

Based on the original paintings sold last year, each piece is made of layers containing diamond dust and platinum leaf.

“I thought this was an inspirational moment to capture His Majesty just before he took the throne,” he told Reuters.

“And while I was painting the work, I tried to imagine … what was she thinking at the beginning of the reign?”

Elizabeth was Britain’s longest reign and is now the oldest monarch in the world, becoming a queen on February 6, 1952, with the death of her father, George VI. Her coronation took place on June 2, 1953.

The four-day celebration event will begin on June 2nd, with the 96-year-old Queen scheduled to attend several times.

Priced at £ 1,550, Griffith’s prints will be sold on the West Contemporary Editions online platform on June 4, with £ 150 donated to the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Children’s Charity from each sale. increase.

The cause is close to Griffith’s heart after the hospital treated his newborn daughter in 2012.

The Griffith original was sold for £ 25,000 in a fundraiser in December and the proceeds were sent to GOSH. -agency
