The tremor struck the state of Paktika near the border with Pakistan.
Al Jazeera reported that a powerful earthquake struck Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing at least 255 people in the eastern part of the country. Initial assessments reported by state media earlier that day suggested that 155 people were killed and many more were injured.
“According to preliminary information … 100 people were killed in Paktika in the Gayan district, and 20 people were excavated in the village of Afghanistan Dubai in the Spera district of Khost,” said Elia Skelnaseri, head of the Southwest Red Moon. He said.Zone told Sputnik
Several photos and videos allegedly depicting the aftermath of the earthquake are available online, showing destroyed homes and injured people.
