ATHEX: Stock Index Falls Below 800 Points

The Greek stock market suffered a significant drop on Friday, with selling surged at the end of the week and the Athinon Avenue benchmark fell below 800 points. It was the fifth straight week of losses for the local stock exchange, a sequence not seen in five years.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) Composite Index fell to a 10-week low to close at 798.11 after falling 2.39% from Thursday’s 817.61. On a weekly basis it decreased by 4.55%.

The Large Cap FTSE-25 Index fell 2.68% to close at 1,916.25 points, while the Banks Index fell 3.76%.

Piraeus Bank dropped 5.18%, National Bank dropped 4.03%, Alpha dropped 3.43%, OTE Telecom dropped 3.42%, Eurobank dropped 3.34% and OPAP Gaming Corp dropped 3.28%. Only Athens water company EYDAP rose his 0.41%.

In total, 12 stocks rose, 87 declined, and 25 remained unchanged.

Turnover increased to €60.7 million from €47.5 million on Thursday.

In Nicosia, the Cyprus Stock Exchange Composite Index fell 1.84% to close at 75.60 points. ATHEX: Stock Index Falls Below 800 Points
