
(KRON) – Many cities within the Bay Space are kicking off celebrations all through the weekend main as much as Juneteenth, a federal vacation acknowledged since 2021. The vacation honors the emancipation of enslaved Black People following a proclamation to free the final remaining slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865.
June 16
San Francisco – From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m, Juneteenth can be celebrated on the Golden Gate Bandshell positioned at 75 Hagiwara Tea Backyard Drive. It’ll function the Marcus Shelby Ensemble and the Curtis Household C-Notes.
Berkeley – A Juneteenth Freedom Fest can be held at UC Berkeley’s Zellerbach Corridor celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop and R&B. Doorways open at 6 p.m. with the present set to start out at 7 p.m.
June 17
Livermore – A celebration in partnership with Tri Valley for Black Lives can be held from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. on the Bankhead Theater positioned at 2400 First Avenue.
Richmond – From 10 a.m. to six p.m., a Juneteenth Household Day and Competition can be held at Nichol Park.
Mill Valley – The Mill Valley Downtown Plaza is holding a freedom pageant from 11 a.m. to three p.m. at 87 Throckmorton Avenue.
Vallejo – A parade can be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Broadway and Tennessee Avenue adopted by a pageant from 11 a.m. to five p.m. on the Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Inexperienced.
San Francisco – A freedom celebration can be held within the Fillmore District from 11 a.m. to six p.m. on Fillmore Avenue between Geary Boulevard and Fulton Avenue. The celebration will function dwell music, carnival rides, meals distributors, a style present and a basic automotive present.
San Jose – The annual Juneteenth Homecoming in Santa Clara County can be held at South First Avenue from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. The celebration, which honors African American heritage, will function art work, retailers, numerous meals distributors, and music amongst different issues.

Oakland – Afrocentric Oakland is celebrating their annual Juneteenth Competition on the Lake Merritt Amphitheater from 12 p.m. to eight p.m. The pageant celebrates Black and African American tradition and can function music, meals, wellness workshops, actions for kids and merchandise distributors.
In 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth Nationwide Independence Day Act, making it an official federal vacation.
