Benedict Cumberbatch says Will Smith “beats” him in Oscar

Will Smith definitely stole this year’s Oscar show after going on stage to slap comedian Chris Rock, who hosted the ceremony. But he also won his own Academy Award shortly before the assault, even if this achievement was inevitably undermined.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who hosted the Saturday Night Live show this weekend, recalled that Chris Rock wasn’t the only one to be beaten by Will Smith at the Oscar 2022.

Cumberbatch was nominated for this year’s Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance at The Power of the Dog. But Oscar went to Will Smith-but he wasn’t always remembered just for his award that night.

“I didn’t win. I was beaten by Will Smith … not physically! Not physically,” Cumberbatch joked.

Smith was invited to return to stage to collect Oscars just 30 minutes after slapping Chris Rock following a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair condition.

He repeatedly apologized for assaulting Rock, but nevertheless had to resign from the academy in the wake of slap after banning slap from the event for 19 years. Locke decided not to accusate the actor in his turn. Benedict Cumberbatch says Will Smith “beats” him in Oscar
