Beyond the request to rename Hyderabad, a new column erupts

Hyderabad: After the Central Minister said there should be no objection to the move, a new line was formed over the request to rename Hyderabad to “Baganagar”.

Raosaheb Danve, Minister of State of the Railway Union, said Wednesday that there should be no objection to renaming Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.

He justified the request after announcing a three-day meeting here in the first week of January 2022, after Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) called Hyderabad Bhagyanagar. It will be held in five states early next year.

“Samanvay Baithak (Coordination Meeting), a key operator of various organizations inspired by RSS working in different areas of social life, will be held in Bhagyanagar, Telangana from January 5th to 7th,” said RSS. Tweeted on December 21st.

The tweet rekindled the debate about the request to rename Hyderabad. Some BJP leaders defended the request, noting that they had been using Bhagyanagar for a long time.

Leaders of the ruling Terangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) argued that the BJP wanted to pursue a divisive politics by demanding a change in the name of Hyderabad.

“There is Ganga Jamuni Tehzeeb in Hyderabad, but BJP wants to rake up such issues and thwart them,” said TRS leader K. Krishan.

He argued that the BJP wasn’t plagued by development, it was just talking about changing the name of the city, changing clothes and eating habits to do politics.

He also recalled that the BJP increased demand for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) during last year’s elections.

During the GHMC poll campaign, Uttar Pradesh’s Prime Minister, Yogia Ditianas, called for a change in the name of Hyderabad.

“Some people were asking me if I could rename Hyderabad to Baganagar. I asked why I didn’t. After BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh, Faizabad to Ayodhya, I told him that I had renamed Alahabad to Playagraj, so why can’t I rename Hyderabad to Baganagar? “Yogi asked.

The All India Majlis-Muslim Council (AIMIM), Hyderabad’s main political force, strongly opposes this request.

Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of AIMIM and MP of Hyderabad, says that the entire generation of people who want to rename Hyderabad will end, but the name of the city will not change.
