Biden Returns to White House After Withdrawing from Presidential Race

U.S. President Joe Biden returned to the White House on Tuesday after a period of self-isolation at his Delaware home. His doctors reported that his COVID-19 symptoms have resolved.

“I am feeling well,” Biden said when asked about his condition.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the White House Physician, confirmed in a memo that Biden tested negative for COVID-19 using a Binax rapid antigen test.

O’Connor noted that Biden’s “symptoms have resolved” and emphasized that during his illness, the President did not experience a fever, his vital signs remained normal, and his lungs remained clear.

Biden did not address questions about his recent decision to exit the presidential race or whether Vice President Kamala Harris could succeed against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

During his quarantine, the 81-year-old President made headlines on Sunday by announcing on social media that he would not seek re-election. He stated his intention to “focus all his energies on his duties as president for the remainder of his term” and endorsed Harris as his choice to replace him on the Democratic ticket.

This announcement followed increasing concerns about Biden’s age and capability to challenge Trump. Biden tested positive for COVID-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas last Wednesday and has been isolating since.

O’Connor reassured that Biden’s symptoms had resolved, with no fever or abnormal vital signs throughout his infection. He also mentioned that Biden would continue to be monitored for any recurrence of illness and would maintain his presidential duties.
