Blockade is restricted in Mumbai as daily COVID cases jump to the 20K mark: Mayor

Mumbai: Mayor Kishori Pednekar of Mumbai said on Tuesday that a blockade would be imposed in the city if the number of daily COVID-19 cases exceeds 20,000.

“If we have more than 20,000 daily COVID cases, we need to impose a blockade in Mumbai,” says Pednekar.

She further stated that due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, all schools in the city were closed and students were taking online classes.

“Prime Minister Uddhav Thacke himself canceled Shiv Sena’s program. This effort is being made to ensure that the lives of citizens are not at risk,” said Pedneker.

She further urged people to follow all the rules appropriate for COVID.

“People shouldn’t be crowded and should obey the rules. No one wants a blockade, but for that, people should obey the rules,” Mumbai added.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued new guidelines on Monday to blockade buildings in Mumbai. If more than 20% of the occupancy of a building or ridge apartment has COVID-19 patients, the entire building or ridge should be closed. ..
