For its 46th edition Brussels of flowersThe city of Brussels is calling on residents to decorate their balconies, vestibules and façades with seasonal flowers, Bruzz reports.
Citizens are required to participate in the annual contest by July 1st. In this contest, prizes will be awarded to the best flower displays.
The purpose of the contest is to bring more nature to the city of Brussels and encourage people to spend their time gardening rather than sitting behind the screen.
It is also expected that the increase in flowers and leaves will make the city more livable, increase the population of birds, butterflies and bees, and have a positive impact on wildlife and air quality.
“At the annual contest, we invite the people of Brussels to brighten the city with flowers,” says Zoubida Jellab (Ecolo), a city council member of the green space of the capital. “Therefore, residents of Brussels are calling on them to leave their computers and televisions for scoops, topsoil and carefully selected flowers.”
