China-based BOE supplying displays for iPhone 15 Pro in 2023

Beijing: China-based display maker BOE is reported to supply Apple with OLED LTPO displays for high-end models in the iPhone 15 lineup in 2023.

According to The Elec, Chinese display makers will manufacture OLED LTPO panels next year to supply to Cupertino-based giants.

The company had previously failed to supply OLED screens for the iPhone 12 series, but was able to enter the supply chain of the iPhone 13 lineup, the flagship product of the current generation.

According to the report, BOE is expanding its ability to manufacture OLED LTPO displays that allow variable refresh rates up to 120Hz on the iPhone 15 Pro.

In addition, Apple plans to launch at least one iPhone 15 model with a periscope camera system in 2023, allowing it to expand its optical zoom.

Analyst Jeff Pooh said that some iPhone 15 series models of periscope lenses have a 10x zoom feature that is far superior to the iPhone 13’s 3x zoom.

There are already some Android smartphones with periscope lenses, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra and Huawei’s P40 Pro +. Both of these devices have up to 10x optical zoom.

Meanwhile, Apple plans to add a 48MP camera lens to the iPhone next year.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, these iPhone camera upgrades over the next two years will help increase market share, revenue, and profits for Taiwanese manufacturer Largan Precision.
