Colombian superstar James Rodriguez eager to leave Qatar for Spain’s Valencia – Doha News

Colombian footballer James Rodriguez has expressed a desire to leave Qatar’s Al Rayyan and go to Valencia, saying he would be there for the Spanish team if given the chance.

“If they call me from Valencia, I’ll walk from Qatar too. I’d take a pay cut. If they need someone to help Edinson Cavani, I’ll be there. They’re great fans.” It’s a great club with a team,” said the attacking midfielder in an interview with the Spanish show “El chiringuito de Jugones”.

Rodriguez is the biggest star to have played on the Qatar pitch. The Colombian player left Premier League side Everton for 2021 when he joined Alhe Ryan.

But at Al-Rayyan, the 31-year-old has struggled to return to his true form as multiple injuries set back his superstar.

Rodriguez is a Colombian celebrity who was awarded Portugal’s Golden Ball Award in 2012. Rodriguez became the youngest Colombian player in history to win, following Radamel He Falcao.

Rodriguez moved to Al Rayyan at an estimate of €8m to €10m, making him one of the highest paid players to play for Qatar.

The midfielder made 15 appearances for Al Rayyan, scoring 5 goals and providing 7 assists.

Rodriguez’s statement at the Spanish show isn’t his first plea to leave the Middle East. reportedly I am unhappy with my team and would like to play in Europe again or join the MLS.

When asked earlier this year if he would consider another team, Rodriguez dropped a definitive answer.

“I don’t know; I never know what’s going to happen, but I want to go somewhere else,” Rodriguez said on Twitch, quoted in Spanish by Diario Olé.

“Physically, I’m perfect. I’m healthy. They ask me if I’m going back to Europe. Why? There are conditions for that. I’m on the rhythm. A good option would be the United States.” he added.

It’s unclear if there are any official talks with international teams outside the Gulf, but the footballer has called Valencia exclusively, which has allowed him to attract attention.

Rodriguez has a contract with Al Rayyan until 2024.

Regarding Qatar’s upcoming World Cup, Rodriguez and Colombian fans were heartbroken when the team failed to qualify for the winter tournament.

Colombia beat Venezuela 1-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers, but Peru’s win over Paraguay put them one point above Rodriguez’s side and behind CONMEBOL in the standings.

Ranked 17th in the FIFA world rankings, Colombia reached the quarter-finals in 2014 and reached the last 16 in Russia 2018.
