Coronavirus: 7,263 infections have been detected within the past week with a positive rate of 9.77%.

Friday’s Ministry of Health announced last week that 7,263 Covid-19 infections were detected and the holiday island positive rate reached 9.77%.

At the same time, two more people have died as the number of deaths has increased to 1,072 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The two deaths from the cornavirus relate to an 89-year-old woman who died on June 19, and a 37-year-old man who died in September 2021.

The ministry also announced that 47 Covid-19 patients were being treated in a state hospital, one of whom was intubated and three in a highly dependent ward.

The positives detected this week were identified after a total of 74,362 tests. The positive of 7,263 increases the total number previously identified in the republic to 504,717.

PCR tests accounted for 4,111 such tests and found 572 positives, while rapid tests accounted for the majority of the tests, 70,251 performed and 6,691 infections identified.

Epidemiologists believe that Cyprus is at the top of the sixth pandemic wave, and that the B2A5 subvariant is likely to be widespread and established.
