Court orders Royal Malta Yacht Club to vacate Ta’ Xbiex property
The Royal Malta Yacht Club (RYMC) has been ordered by a court to vacate the Ta’ Xbiex property.
The Court of Appeals decision follows a story that dates back to 2002.
In its ruling, the Malta Stadium Association said it had been temporarily ceded land in Ta’ Xbiex by the government on 29 August 2002. The land was subsequently expropriated by the government in 2008, and in September 2009, the Director of Lands and the Council, which had been in charge of the land after expropriation, granted RMYC his 49-year permanent residency.
The Malta Stadium Association contested the expropriation, arguing that it had declared the expropriation void through a 2014 judgment confirmed in 2015. In 2020, the club was ordered by a court to vacate Lido.
Three appeals have been filed by RYMC, Sports Malta and Lands Authority.
However, the appeals court upheld the yacht club’s decision to vacate the premises within two months.
Attorneys Mark Reffalo and Manuel Galea represented the Malta Stadium Association.
