Hyderabad: According to officials, all students at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) who tested positive for Covid-19 in the past few days were vaccinated with both doses of the Covid vaccine.

As many as 120 students and staff have tested positive for the virus in the past week on a campus in Kandi, Sangareddy district.

IITH officials said Thursday that only two vaccinated students were invited to campus as part of rigorous measures to combat the Covid epidemic.

“Currently, there are 112 positive cases among students. They are all isolated in separate quarantine areas. Almost all reported cases are mild or asymptomatic and 4-5 days. It shows good signs of recovery within time, “the statement said.

IITH currently has 211 quarantine rooms, which will increase according to requirements.

The institute has suspended all offline activities and the semester is conducted entirely in online mode.

About 600 unaffected students have already left the campus. Authorities are in the process of turning an empty hostel block into a quarantine facility.

Six talented doctors and nine staff nurses serve the IITH community in a 24-hour, 365-day rotation. According to the statement, four additional staff nurses were hired just to monitor Covid’s case.

Food and medicine for all Covid-affected students is delivered directly by attendees according to the required Covid protocol.

Primary and secondary contacts who tested positive were quarantined for two days and advised to be tested if they had symptoms, he said.

IITH said it imposes strict restrictions on entrance and exit gates to contain the spread of the virus.
