COVID19: Cyprus to abolish wedding safe pass

The government is considering abolishing safepass requirements for all hospitality and entertainment facilities that are still needed, such as weddings.

In a comment to a reporter on Monday, Health Minister Michaelis Hajipantera said government experts would recommend abolishing the safe pass as the number of Covid infections and hospitalizations is declining daily.

As a bystander to the visit to the hemodialysis unit at Limassol General Hospital, the Minister was asked to comment on the possibility of lifting safepass requirements for entertainment and other hospitality facilities.

“I am waiting for an expert recommendation. Next, a suggestion to Cabinet to scrap Safepass relies on their suggestions on how to move forward, “said Hajipantera.

He said the proposal would be submitted to the Cabinet on Tuesday.

The Minister of Health said the relaxation of restrictions would only apply to wedding events and entertainment venues.

He added that safepass requirements continue to be valid in high-risk areas such as hospitals, facilities and elderly housing with care.

Hadjipantela said recent epidemiological data are promising.

According to the latest weekly report from the Ministry of Health, 3,786 to 3,444 new infections have been reported.

Hospitalization continued to decrease from 89 to 60, serious cases decreased from 20 to 16, and intubated patients decreased from 4 to 6.
