Crozier Fire evacuation zone shrinks in Sierra Nevada
Evacuation zones have been reduced in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Placerville as the Crozier Fire continued to burn over the weekend.
El Dorado County officials said Sunday that residents were allowed to return to their homes except in a roughly 40-square-mile area that includes Mosquito and Swansboro.
In the map above, the approximate perimeter of the fire is shown in black, with evacuation zones shown in red.
The Crozier Fire was reported around 11pm on Tuesday, August 6th as a half-acre vegetation fire in El Dorado National Forest, about six miles north of the town of Camino on Highway 50. Initial evacuation orders were issued within hours.
The Crozier fire is 1,938 acres (3 square miles) and 18 percent contained, according to a report released Sunday by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
For more information on evacuations, including warning areas, see the Perimeter map. El Dorado County has established a non-emergency phone number for fire information, (530) 621-7676, and also has a webpage about the fire.
