The Czech Railways (ČD) plans to raise ticket prices significantly from December 2022, the company’s CEO Michal Krapinec told the Czech daily Právo. The company’s directors said inflation was close to the current double-digit inflation rate, but declined to provide details. He also said the company is considering adding antennas to trains to improve mobile phone connectivity and is also considering making the website more user-friendly.
Krapinec said the company currently has a debt of CZK 32 billion and ended both previous fiscal years with a small loss. In the first quarter of 2022, the number of people traveling by train was only 83% before the coronavirus pandemic.
