Czechs get 8 free helicopters from US

The Czech Republic will receive eight helicopters from the United States free of charge, Czech Defense Minister Jana Chernokhova said Thursday night. Six will be combat helicopters and the other two will be transports, she told Czech TV.

The US embassy in Prague said the Czech side would only cover the costs of transporting and modernizing the helicopters.

The Czech Army has so far ordered eight Viper and four Venom helicopters from the American company Bell at a cost of CZK 14.6 billion. The newly announced donation represents a total of 20 US-made helicopters. Czechs get 8 free helicopters from US
