Missing fundamentals are the illusion used on smartphones and other phones.

Complex sounds such as speech and music are composed of various audible frequencies such as 100, 200, and 300 hertz. Scientific American..

Due to its small size and low quality speaker, the phone usually sends only 300-3,000 hertz.

The fundamental frequency of an adult voice is less than 300 hertz, while the fundamental frequency of a normal male voice is about 100-150 hertz, but it is rare to mix adults and children or men and women by phone.
