Bayern said on Monday that European approval was secured, which would normally take six to nine months to obtain, approximately a month after the company submitted the application. This shot was first approved in the smallpox area in 2013.

The company has already signed several vaccine orders with countries that were using non-adaptive products. Its shares have increased by more than 150 percent since mid-May when it first announced such a deal. Bayern has raised its 2022 financial forecast several times, with full-year earnings estimates more than double what it had predicted earlier this year.

The WHO decision “improves the prospect of further government orders for Imvanex, the only vaccine currently available,” Citigroup analyst Peter Verdult wrote in a note. He estimated that at least 50 percent of Bavaria’s 30 million vaccination capacity could be allocated to shots.
