Delhi likely to return to ‘dry days’ from Sept 1 to 21

New Delhi: There will be no more rebates or ‘one plus one’ deals, as liquor vending machines run by the Delhi government will begin operating under the old excise tax regime from 1 September, with 21 days of ‘drying days’ etc. A return to past standards is likely, officials said Friday.

However, to improve the customer experience, they said there will be premium sales of fine liquor and self-service stores where customers can pick up their favorite brands from the shelves.

The Delhi Government’s four companies DTTDC, DSIIDC, DCCWS and DSSC have been mandated to open a total of 500 liquor outlets by 31 August.

Each company also operates five premium vendors. The total number of liquor stores operated by both companies will increase to 700 by the end of the year.

The sales tax policy for private liquor vendors currently operating in the city will end on August 31st. A Delhi government entity will operate retail liquor distributors from 1st September and there are no private companies in this segment.

According to Excise Office documents, holders of L-6 (government-operated shop) licenses are obliged to sell liquor only at the price determined by the Excise Commission, which is indicated on the bottle label. .

“Under- or over-billing is considered a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in revocation of your license,” the document read.

Alcohol sales are open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. All dry days are closed.

Under the Excise Policy 2021-22, the department has reduced the drying days from 21 days to 3 days.

“Under the old excise policy, there were 21 days when shops were closed during important national religious festivals and anniversaries of great figures. We have decided to return to the old excise policy, so the 21 dry days are likely to be maintained,” the official said.

Government-operated liquor stores will have over 300 square feet of carpeted area and will be located in local shopping centers and commercial establishments. Excise Policy 2021 fixed the minimum carpet area for a vending machine at 500 square feet for him.

The proposed sales facility will be inspected by an on-site inspection committee composed of Excise Officers.

Liquor stores are at least 100 meters away from major educational, religious, and 50-bed hospitals.
