Berlin, July 19-Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller today thanked fans for their testicular cancer diagnosis and vowed to “strongly return.”

Haller of Côte d’Ivoire joined the German club earlier this month on behalf of Erling Haaland, who signed with Manchester City.

However, the 28-year-old left the team’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland yesterday after a tumor was found in the testicles.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for receiving so many warm messages,” he said in a Twitter post.

“I was very impressed to see these beautiful reactions, and I even feel that they aren’t worth it.

“But thanks to you, I said it would be another challenge in our journey. See you on the pitch to celebrate your next victory.

“My family and I thank you. I now focus on my recovery to return stronger.”

Dortmund paid € 31 million (141 million ringgit) to 28-year-old Ajax after scoring 47 goals in 65 Dutch games.

“This news today shocked Sebastian Kehl and all of us,” Dortmund sports director Sebastian Kehl said in a club statement.

“We do everything with our power to ensure that he receives the best possible treatment,” he added.

The first match of Dortmund’s new Bundesliga season will face Bayer Leverkusen on August 6, eight days after heading to the third tier 1860 Munich in the first round of the German Cup. — AFP Dortmund’s Haller vows to “return stronger” after diagnosis of testicular cancer
