Dowry harassment, castorist remarks killed Dalit women

Kochi: A relative of a young Darrit woman who committed suicide at a couple’s house in Ernakulam, Kerala earlier last month said she took an extreme step due to dowry-related harassment and cast remarks by her husband and wife-in-law to her. Insisted.

Relatives of the victim alleged police indifference, and despite some complaints and follow-up to the Ernakulam Central Police Station where the case was registered, no measures have been taken to arrest her husband to date. Stated.

The accused husband said he had not been arrested for moving the expected bail plea pending in court, and the allegations were dismissed by police along with a senior Kochi police officer.

Police officers are also investigating the case by the Ernakulam Central ACP (Police Assistant), which has all applicable provisions under the IPC, Dowry Prohibition Act, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He said he was investigating. Added.

He said ACP was required to speak to the victim’s family, pay attention to their claims and take action in accordance with the law.

He further stated that the family’s allegations were about measures taken at the police station level, but the investigation is now proceeding smoothly as it was led by the ACP.

The family said on a television channel that the victim had been discriminated against from the first day they entered the couple’s house, despite being a love marriage.

They said she married on April 26, 2020 and ended her life on June 1, 2022.

She had separate tools for drinking food and water, and after she had a miscarriage, her husband and step-in-law further ignored her and mentally harassed her to agree to a divorce. The family insisted.

They claimed that the victim was once beaten by her husband in front of them at her maternal home.

They also complained to the Kochi Police Commissioner and the State SC / ST Commission, alleging that they did not help.
