Duhail passes Gharafa and Arabi’s Ilyas beats Sailiya

In yesterday’s QNB Stars League, dominant Al-Duhail beat Al-Gharafa 4-2. With the victory at Al-Gharafa Stadium, Red Knights took the lead with 32 points. This is one point ahead of champion Al Sadd, who has three games. Al Sadd’s match against Al Wakrah, Qatar SC and Al Rayan has been postponed after the player tested positive on Covid-19.
Yesterday, Edmílson Jr. (14 minutes), Michael Olunga (47 minutes), Almoez Ali (56 minutes) and Lava Yahya (90 + 7) scored Al-Duhail goals. Gabriel Perez (59 minutes) and Ahmed al-Janehi (69 minutes) were the scorers for Al Gharafa.
Both teams fought fiercely in an exciting encounter between the top four teams, which has always been an open game. Al-Duhail scored as Edmilson took advantage of a defensive mistake before Olunga doubled the lead. Al-Duhail added a third point to Almoez, and Luis Martin gave him a cross. Al Gharafa, without losing his heart, counterattacked Perez, who defeated goalkeeper Salah Zakaria.
Goals spurred Al Gharafa and they pushed hard to bring another goal. This time, Al Janehi was spot-on. Al Gharafa maintained 23 points in 14 games after his fifth defeat.
At Qatar SC Stadium, Al Arabi defeated Al Sailiya 1-0 and Abdul Guardil Illyas won. Al-Arabi increased his score to 23 points on his seventh victory, and Al-Sailiya scored five points following his eleventh defeat.
There was no big chance on either side, and Al-Arabi passed Ilyas following a cross from the right of Hamed Ismail after the teams tested each other’s defenses. Ilyas defeated goalkeeper Claude Amin in the header of the only goal in the match.
Al-Arabi scored almost again in the 40th minute, despite Al-Sailiya’s attempt to counterattack, but Ilyas’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper’s corner. Al-Sailiya increased the pressure on Al-Arabi by aiming for the goal and entering the second half with all his might, mainly attacking from the side.
Al-Arabi approached in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper stopped Abdul Aziz al-Ansari with timely intervention. Al-Sailiya’s aggressive attempts continued, and in the 74th minute Driss Fettouhi missed the opportunity to score as his powerful shot with a wide post. Attempts by both teams continued, with Al-Arabi finally laughing.
Meanwhile, Al Wakrah beat Al Hall 4-1 after a brace from Gelson Dala, who scored in the 2nd and 23rd minutes of the match at Al Gharafa Stadium. Mohamed Benyettou (14′) and Hazem Shehata (60′) were the other scorers. Ahmed Mahgoub (36′) scored Al Hall’s only goal.
