Dutch approve legal right to work from home

The Dutch Parliament has approved a law establishing telecommuting as a legal right, making the Netherlands one of the first countries to recognize the flexibility of remote work by law.

The legislation was approved by the House of Representatives of the Dutch Bicameral Parliament on Wednesday. It still requires a nod from the Dutch Senate before final recruitment.

Pandemics have fueled changes in attitudes towards work, and many workers seek to retain some of the flexibility they have experienced over the last two years. But for companies looking to meet the surge in demand as the pandemic recedes, this topic is becoming an increasingly polarized issue.

Last month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk issued an ultimatum for company staff to return to or leave the office.
