Dutch Hoogerland defends Franja Marathon victory

Ljubljana-Dutch rider Johnny Hohelland won the 41st Franja Marathon on Sunday, defending last year’s victory at Slovenia’s largest amateur cycling event.

The 39-year-old Tour de France former Polkadot jersey winner defeated the Italian secession group and finished the 156km race in 3 hours 37 minutes 28 seconds.

2nd place is Luca Chiage, 3rd place is Ettore Carlini, 4th place is Francesco Manu Giorno, and 5th place is Christian Darago. The latter created a delay of 52 seconds.

The best Slovenes were Tadej Sedar in 9th place.

Laura Seaments of Slovenia is the best woman to finish the race at 3:50:17 with her third Franja victory following 2017 and 2020. She was second with her compatriot Nina Pugueri and third with Italy’s Elena Maria Palmisano.

The marathon takes the rider on a round trip from Ljubljana to Cerkno in the western part of the country. Named after a hospital run by the Partisan Resistance movement near Cerkno during World War II. Dutch Hoogerland defends Franja Marathon victory
