East Nusa Tenggara: Ferry fire death toll rises to 17
Today, SAR teams found the bodies of three more passengers, bringing the death toll to 17.
Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) – Fatalities due to fires Express Cantika 77 Kupang’s Naikru ferries in East Nusa Tenggara on Monday rose to 17 as of Tuesday night.
“Today, SAR teams found the bodies of three more passengers, bringing the death toll to 17,” the head of the SAR office at Kupang I Putu Sudayana informed Tuesday.
The bodies of the three passengers were found eight miles from the area where the ferryboat caught fire off Timor Naikruh Island in the Kupang district on Monday.
SAR personnel recovered the bodies of three passengers, KN Antaleja A state vessel on the second day of the search that covered the coast of Kupang Bay.
“Three bodies were evacuated on board. KN Antaleja I will be taken to Kupang soon tonight,” Sudayana said.
As of Monday, 326 fire survivors had been evacuated from the ill-fated boat. They were taken to Kupang in batches and the first of his 17 arrived at Kupang’s Tenau port on Monday night.
