Elderly people who eat alone lose fast – Chosun Ilbo (English version) : Hankook Ilbo

Research suggests that people who eat alone tend to age faster, possibly to heighten feelings of loneliness and depression.
The survey from Samsung Medical Center and Kyung Hee University Medical Center included 2,072 people between the ages of 70 and 84.
We measured frailty and aging in terms of weight loss, muscle weakness, fatigue, slower walking speed, and less physical activity. Victims are at risk of even a minor cold developing into a major illness such as pneumonia.
Researchers found that seniors who had no one to eat with were 61% more likely to suffer from these symptoms than people of the same age who ate with others.
Older men who ate alone were 3.7 times more likely to lose weight, while women were 1.6 times more likely to suffer from fatigue and 2.8 times more likely to walk slowly.
Living with family did not have a significant effect on aging. The point was not to eat alone.
“Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many seniors are unable to go to senior centers and have to eat alone,” said Park Jun-hee of Samsung Medical Center. need to be taught.
