Electricity prices rose 135.9% and gas prices rose 62.5% in August – Japanese

(ANSA) – ROME, Aug 31 – Italy’s free market electricity prices rose 135.9% annually in August, gas prices rising year on year amid energy crunch, partly due to cuts in Russian gas supply It rose 62.5%, ISTAT said Wednesday.

Electricity and gas prices rose 109.2% and 22.8% in July, respectively, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The hike was only partially offset by lower increases in petrol and diesel fuel, ISTAT said.

Diesel rose 30.9% in August after rising 18.2% in July, while gasoline rose 8.8% to 22.3%.

Heating fuels rose 52.5% in August after rising 43.6% in July. (ANSA).
