EU fines for illegal landfills in Greece are piled up





Greece has paid the European Commission a fine of around € 66.5 million since 2015 and is facing more fines for failing to close and repair illegal landfills. European

According to a recent report, in Greece, three illegal landfills, Santorini, Hydra and Kalymnos, are still in operation, 16 are closed but not repaired, a series of ensuring dumps. Steps are needed. It does not pose a public health or environmental hazard.

It seems that there are 11 other sites where the dump was closed and repaired, but it is believed to have been illegally reopened.
