European diplomat Park charged with sexual harassment

Islamabad [Pakistan]August 24 (ANI): A senior Pakistani diplomat and Consul General of Pakistan in the Spanish city of Barcelona has been dismissed on charges of sexual harassment, according to local media.

According to Pakistani publication The Nation, a local consulate staff member filed a complaint against Mirza Salman Beig earlier this month.

Citing sources on August 11, The Nation reported that the official, whose name was not released, had lodged a complaint with Pakistan’s Ambassador in Madrid, Shujat Rathore.

The Foreign Ministry has sent a two-member team to Barcelona and Madrid to investigate the incident, according to the publication. They completed an investigation and on this basis the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the officer from his position and recalled him to his headquarters in Islamabad.

According to the publication, the complainant in her complaint alleges the attorney general was sending her messages via social media, which she claimed was harassment.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari canceled a trip to Europe on Monday due to heavy flooding in Sindh. His trip to Europe was to strengthen ties with Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

The Express Tribune reported that Bilawal will fly to Germany on Monday on the first leg of his first tour of the EU country since taking office. A revised schedule for the same itinerary will be announced soon, according to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) sources, according to the publication.

The decision to postpone the trip came a day after two more districts in Sindh were declared “disaster-hit” after devastating rains and floods, bringing the total to 13 districts, the Express said.・The Tribune reported. (Ani)
