Colombo (No.1 News) – Fifteen organizations representing public sector professionals have warned of strict action tomorrow (25th) after payday if the government does not roll back its unfair tax regime.
These professional groups have already declared Black Protest Week against a tax system they claim is unjust.
A conglomerate of professional trade unions represented by multiple organizations including the Government Medical Officers Association, the Union of University Teachers Association, the Ceylon Electricity Commission Engineers Union and the Ceylon Bank Employees Union held a media briefing in Colombo.
The Sri Lankan government has already decided to impose a tax rate of 6% to 36% on monthly income over Rs. 100,000/- from January 2023.
