US oil major ExxonMobil has begun drilling a Glaucus-2 well at Block 10 off Cyprus to better understand the size of the giant Glaucus-1 gas discovery that took place in Block in 2019.

This news was shared this week by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus.

ExxonMobil uses a Stenaforce drillship to operate. The US company is the operator of the block and its partner is Qatar Energy.

The partnership discovered 5-8 trillion cubic feet of gas in the “Glaucus–1” well in 2019. This well was excavated using a Stena IceMax drillship.

Earlier this month, the two companies also signed an exploration and production sharing agreement with Cyprus for Block 5, offshore southwest of the island.
