FAS/AFC ‘A’ Diploma Coaching Course (Part 2) Completed – Football Association of Singapore

Singapore, 6 February 2023 –
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) recently completed Part 2 of the FAS/Asian Football Confederation (AFC) ‘A’ Diploma Coaching Course.

Held from January 26th to 31st at Jalan Besar Stadium, a total of 23 participants were coached by Lead Coach Developer Philippe Aw and Assistant Coach Developer Robin Chitrakar. Part 1 of the course Signed in November last year.

This was the second of six parts of the course and covered the following topics:

Theoretical topic:

  • Team building – roles and responsibilities
  • Preparing for presentation
  • personal development plan
  • Analysis (your team and opponents)

Practical topics:

  • defense from the top
  • low block defense
  • dealing with the cross
  • Moving from attack to defense
  • defending a set piece

Guest speakers Marcus Lee and Hidayat Osman of the National Youth Sports Institute presented on the topics of performance testing, fitness development, strength and conditioning.

New FAS Head of Talent and Identification, Kenneth Santa, was also invited to share more about scouting and recruiting.

Assistant Coach Developer Chitrakar said: FAS.org.sg: “Both Philippe and I were delighted to welcome Part 2 of the course participants, as we were able to monitor their progress throughout the week. We look forward to seeing their progress when they return for Part 4.”

Robert Eziakor, Head of Youth Development at Hougang United, a course participant, said: Participants were able to gain great exposure to remain relevant to the dynamism of football.

“Hands-on sessions led by coach developers provided much-needed clarity about liberation and education, especially among elite youth players. I look forward to sharing it with my colleagues and players.”

Participant Leonard Tan found the course to be fulfilling.

“It was a great learning experience to watch other participants conduct sessions, provide great input, and brainstorm ideas with each other when asked inspiring questions.”

Zainudine Hassan, Head of Coach Education and Development, FAS, highlighted the change in the course format compared to previous coaching courses.

“Following feedback from previous participants and coach developers, the assignments given in Part 2 were not comprehensive and participants were allowed to update them throughout the duration of the course. , was introduced to allow participants to constantly reflect and evaluate their own work.”

Course participants proceed to Part 3 of the course to complete the Work Experience segment. Part 4 will resume at the end of May 2023 for him.
