Hundreds of flights have been canceled or delayed for hours, with uncertainties and unanswered questions. This is the general atmosphere of airports around the world in the midst of summer. Due to staff shortages, overbooking, technical issues, etc., airlines will cancel, reschedule or postpone flights during this period, whether scheduled or at low cost. As a result, many airlines are facing a wave of complaints.

In this context, the passenger is the most suffering person and needs to cancel the trip or rethink the entire vacation plan. For this very reason, tourism specialists are advised to consider backup options in case of any situation.

According to a FlightClaim.ro survey, 65% of respondents have already experienced at least one flight delay or cancellation from the beginning of the year to the present. The survey also found that low-cost airlines continue to be preferred by passengers over airlines (73.7%).

Tourists are planning to travel more this year

According to the same survey, more than 82% of participants said they were already on a plane from the beginning of this year to the present, and 92% said they would travel by plane this summer. The top locations they chose include distant intercontinental destinations such as Europe (87.5% voted), the United States, and close intercontinental destinations such as Egypt, Israel, and Emirates, with 27.5% of respondents voting. At the same time, according to this survey, Romanians continue to pre-book tickets for the best prices. 47.5% of respondents bought their tickets two weeks to two months ago, and 37.5% bought their tickets more than two months ago. Only 15% buy two weeks ago.

At the same time, accommodation is usually booked with a plane ticket (61.5%). 28.2% of respondents choose to book accommodation near the departure date to prevent the flight from being canceled or changed, and 10.3% book the hotel before the flight.

Passengers are paying attention to summer flights

In the current aviation turmoil, 55% of passengers announcing their flight this summer believe that flight cancellations or changes are likely to occur. At the same time, 65% of them already had at least one flight delay or cancellation. As for the solution in case of problems, 67.8% seem to have selected the options proposed by the airline (refund to account, reroute flight, accept newly proposed program). 21.4% relied on companies specializing in helping passengers receive compensation, and 3.6% complained to the Consumer Protection Agency (ANPC).

Low-cost carriers, which offer affordable prices and a rich portfolio of destinations around the world, are still preferred by passengers over airlines (73.7%). Reasons for passengers to give up flying on a particular airline include repeated flight cancellations and delays, baggage policy, improper behavior on board, and lack of communication with passengers.
