Forest fire warning due to temperature rise

The Forestry Department has called on citizens to act cautiously and responsibly when in rural areas and to notify authorities when they see smoke.

The call was launched in light of today’s religious holiday, when thousands flock to mountain resorts, but it’s set to heat up for the rest of the week as well.

Members of the public are advised to avoid actions and activities that may lead to fires and to work closely with officials from forestry departments and other relevant services.

Additionally, please note that lighting fires without permission in national forests or at a distance of at least 2 kilometers constitutes a criminal offense punishable by 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of €50,000, or both. In accordance with the relevant Forest Act 2012.

The Rural Fire Prevention Law carries a penalty of five years in prison, a fine of €20,000, or both. Forest fire warning due to temperature rise
