Former AFM Commander Maurice Kaleha has passed away



Former Maltese military commander Maurice Kaleha has died. He was 87 years old.

Calleja was born in Msida and studied at St. Edward’s University and the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, England.

He was a member of the RMA Regiment from 1954 to 1964, after which he was dispatched to Germany until 1968 with the British Army of the Rhine as the main transport.

He later served as Major of the Maltese Army until 1970, and later became the second commander of the Pioneer Battalion.

In 1980, Kaleha was appointed Deputy Commander of the newly formed MTF, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1982 and Colonel in 1986. He was promoted to Deputy Commander of the Maltese Army in 1988 and to AFM Brigade Commander in 1991. ..

Calleja specializes in weapons, ballistics and sniper.
